Artist Statement
I have two objectives when I photograph.
The first one is to tell a story through my work, making everyone who sees my picture feel as if they are right there and part of the moment. I also want my images to evoke a pleasant memory or awaken a desire to see more of a particular place or time.
Secondly, it is my desire to showcase our amazing world through my own, unique perspective.
God has provided a spectacular place for us to enjoy, and I want to inspire an appreciation of His creation.
Biography of Marcia N. (Marcy) Wielfaert
After raising her family and enjoying a career in teaching and educational administration, Marcy Wielfaert wanted to pursue something that would both challenge her and provide an opportunity to be more creative. On a whim, she decided to purchase a camera in May of 2015, because she had always been a “nature girl” and wanted to capture the beauty of her beloved Smoky Mountains. That same year, Marcy and her husband Doug began to travel, and she loved having a way of documenting their adventures to Ireland and Switzerland.
Learning the ins and outs of a new camera was somewhat intimidating to someone who has always considered herself to be technologically challenged. Marcy soon realized that studying a manual or watching videos online was not the best way for her to learn this new craft. She spent the majority of her time going to the Smokies three and four days a week to figure it all out. The learning curve was great, but she preserved and taught herself the basics of a Nikon DSLR camera. Along the way, Marcy discovered that she LOVED taking pictures and that she had a natural ability to compose a pleasing image.
In the Fall of 2018, friends and family began to urge Marcy to make her pictures available for others to purchase, and she joined an online print on demand service. A year and several sales later, an opportunity for Doug and Marcy to be part of a new artisan market in Cleveland presented itself, and a new business, Marcy’s Photo Journey, was born. It wasn’t long before another similar opportunity arose in Knoxville.
Marcy has garnered many awards for her photography over the last few years. She has had work displayed in the Knoxville airport, Knoxville mayor’s office, the Emporium, Tennessee Wildlife Federation calendar, and Wildlife Wilderness Week exhibit. She is a member of the Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers and currently serves on the Board of Directors of that organization.
A meticulous craftsman and creative woodworker, Doug began to frame Marcy’s work, and they expanded their inventory to include canvases and metals in addition to matted prints. Several lines of notecards, calendars, and greeting cards were also developed as additional photo products in the two galleries.
Doug and Marcy still travel, and have visited over 23 foreign countries over the last seven years. Their cameras always come along, and they both enjoy the chance to share their adventures with an online following through Facebook.
Photography has both inspired and rejuvenated Marcy, bringing much joy and contentment to her life. She simply loves what she does!! And the fact that the couple can work together and share God’s amazing world with others is a huge bonus. They have adopted the following passage of scripture as their guiding purpose:
“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:21-23
