The tax reform act passed at the end of 2017 brought drastic changes to some long standing tax rules for individuals and small business owners. Join us to learn more about the changes and how they affect you and your business tax situation. We’ll cover the end of exemptions, increases to the standard deduction, changes to common tax credits & write-offs, some tax planning strategies and other topics of interest.
Kathryn Schrader is the founder of Eaton Tax & Business Services and a founding partner of Eaton & Hartung PLLC. The firm provides payroll, bookkeeping, and other business consulting services to entrepreneurs & small business owners. Eaton & Hartung is a tax planning and preparation firm. As a Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor and a Certified Management Accountant, Kathryn provides individual & group training on many diverse topics.
Ms. Schrader received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Tennessee. She later returned to earn her MBA in entrepreneurship and became a Certified Management Accountant, further underscoring her abilities to serve the needs of business owners. She has extensive experience working in diverse business sectors such as manufacturing, marketing services, consulting and technology start-ups. Her clients include sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, corporations & individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Kathryn credits her family tree filled with dozens of small business owners with her passion for the entrepreneurial path. To expand her knowledge base, Kathryn worked in private, public and corporate accounting. She previously owned Management Consulting Services, working closely with small business, start-ups and non-profits. She also held senior management positions at several well-known companies, including a Knoxville Inc. 500 winner, an international power quality firm, a world-wide ski boat manufacturer and a large east Tennessee agricultural producer.
In addition to designing and implementing effective internal control systems, Kathryn has helped companies develop essential business and accounting practices such as multi-year budgeting, variance analysis, and succession/staff development plans. She is known for her ability to translate complex accounting jargon into a language that business owners and non-accountants can understand. Kathryn’s direct and seasoned advice has earned her a high level of respect among her clients and peers.
More recently, Kathryn created & hosted Outside the Box radio program 2015-2016, a talk show focused on the experiences of small business owners in east Tennessee. She is quite pleased there are now several programs and hosts in the area that focus on small business and its challenges.
Kathryn was an adjunct instructor for Tennessee Wesleyan College for 18 years. Kathryn is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals, CPA+ Network, Business Network International, and Networking Today. An active community leader, Kathryn is serving her 2nd term as president of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance in Knoxville, first serving as its’ president 2010 – 2012 helping to reactivate the previously dormant chapter. Kathryn has chaired that chapter’s Seminar committee since 2013. She has served on the board of the Entrepreneurs of Knoxville, BNI, and many other civic boards.
