Multicultural Fine Art Camp
Clay sculpting, printmaking, environmental art, music, color theory, pastel painting, drawing, watercolor painting, art history, and more!
Hosted by W. James Taylor at Overcoming Believers Church.
MFAC was developed by W James Taylor and his daughters Geneva and Briana Taylor to provide Knoxville-area young people ages 6 through 14 with instruction in fine art disciplines and materials, and to provide area artists and art students the opportunity to experience working with our underprivileged communities here in East Knoxville. MFAC is modeled after a Washington, DC-area fine art camp organized by Millie Shott that he Geneva and Briana attended prior to his return to Knoxville. Taylor was inspired by Shott’s approach, which led to Geneva winning Best in Show in a fine art show at age six for a work she completed using gold leaf when she was four. Geneva died one month before the 2019 opening of the camp.
Three rotating 45-minute classes covering the various art disciplines are presented daily from 9:30am to 12:30pm for a total of 15 different subjects during the weeklong camp. In addition to Taylor, the instructors are area artists and art students practicing in the Knoxville area. Snacks and acoustic guitar breaks with camp singalongs led by Taylor are also provided.
